I enjoyed this very much. Well presented. Strong story. Well acted. If you love a non-fiction story using fiction names and places describing what it was like to live late 1800's you will love this story. That is what Jane Austin effectively preserves in her verbatim of the rules of love and the societal class system which existed. It represents what limited options females were allowed in society. Women were unable to follow a career, go to school. Women could only marry to secure their future. They had to try to marry the riches man possible to insure they did not starve or be homeless. The marriage they picked secured the future for their children too. There was no birth control then. If a female risked pregnancy out of wedlock, she was abandoned left to die and so was her child. Thank god, the present society in North American has advanced since then and women have more options.

This was very disappointing, especially in its actors. Their performance was bland and insipid. I much preferred the Emma Thompson/Hugh Grant production or even the BBC produced one. While I have watched the other versions more than once or twice, I would not see this one again.

Joanna David makes an adorable, very feminine, Georgian Elinor Dashwood. Very well made series, entertaining, very good actors/actresses. A beautiful story that should be seen especially by young women, who nowadays act always so improperly and are quite unfeminine. (Joanna David plaid Mrs. Gardiner, Elizabeth’s aunt in my favorite adaptation of Miss Austin’s Pride and Prejudice in 1995.)

After watching the version of Sense and Sensibility starring Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, and Hugh Grant, and the other one by the BBC, I was very disappointed at the poor acting and production of this DVD. I recommend that you skip this one, and watch the others instead!
