For me the lists and endless paragraphs in this book proved monotonous and didn’t quite give me the exciting feeling that thrifting does which I think is too bad. I didn’t like the notes about haggling especially as someone who has worked retail and knows that often we cannot change the price and it just proves more frustrating and most of the House tips didn’t apply to me either. That said I think this could be useful for parents or older people seeking to be thrifty just not as much for the younger set who already likes to be thrifty. I would check out the Scavenger’s Manifesto instead it is far more universal and interesting to read in my opinion though it has its faults as well.

Marjorie's broadening out from her well-loved gardening books but this is still vintage Marjorie. She describes the childhood she and Margaret Atwood experienced, where family circumstances meant that they learned to do a lot while young. She still subscribes to the "thrifty" lifestyle which is currently in vogue with our concern for the environment, "doing more with less"!
