This 1935 film didn't work for me overall and I bailed early; but I did enjoy Barbara Stanwyck's performance.

I love this film! Barbara Stanwyck does an excellent job playing sharp shooter Annie. The plot if fun and there are many comical moments. This is a nice film to become acquainted with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, Sitting Bull, and of course Annie Oakley. The actors did a marvelous job. If you enjoyed Gary Cooper's Sergeant York, you will probably love this film!

This film is a fictional account of Bill Cody (AKA Buffalo Bill) and his Wild West Show featuring the sharpshooter Annie Oakley. The traveling carnival/circus show depicting some of the features of the Wild West such as rodeo, cowboy/Indian shootouts, and sharpshooting. The film is marred by racist Hollywood’ s buffoonish depiction of a couple of African-American kitchen workers (played by Willie Best and Blue Washington). Why, oh why did Hollywood insist on including this non-essential sideshow? Just too give whites a little laugh at how stupid and inept Black people are? A century of racist Hollywood films sadly has helped to plant white racist beliefs into American society.
