I read the book many years ago, I think I might have watched the t.v. series. Perhaps I was less sensitive when I was younger, I simply cannot watch this cruelty to other human beings.

I love myself some Maya Angelou! Reading her 2nd autobiography has made me love her more. I 've read other readers comments about this book and found that some readers had a hard time accepting that Dr. Angelou lived such a life. Even though I was very moved and disturbed by this book, I can truly appreciate Dr. Angelou's transparency. This book is a testament of her great wisdom in her later years. Without the struggles she faced in her youth the world at large would have been robbed of her enlightenments of life.

Thhese are discs 5-7. The library does not own 1-4, so I didn't bother to watch it.

Loved it the first time around, but found the acting way too theatrical to want to watch again.

Most people today, do not know that “Roots” was the all-time audience leader of a TV series and that it was a shock that a commercial broadcast network would make a serious series about African-Americans (previously, most African-Americans were on sit-coms, with many of them portrayed as stereotypical comic characters). The show shockingly was showed on 8 straight nights, with some of the shows being 2 hours in length. Remember that this was before most people had recording devices, so if you missed it, too bad. You would have to wait a year until they would show reruns. This was a great historical show from the capture of slaves until the day of emancipation. I am somewhat shocked that only one actor was nominated as best actor or actress.
