In 1983, Francis Ford Coppola's film of S.E. Hinton's novel struck a powerful chord with audiences. Coppola has revisited the film and reintegrated 22 minutes of character-enriching footage, including a new beginning and ending more true to the book.

The Outsiders is a book by S.E Hinton about two groups of people, who are complete polar opposites. The Socials, a rich gang that looks down upon everyone, and The Greasers, a gang of poor young boys from the other side of town. The novel showcases the prejudice and life of two completely different groups of people, showing different perspectives every time. Dangerous events occur, and tensions between the two groups change forever. I first read this book in elementary school, and I still remember it to this day. If you are looking for a new read, I recommend this book 100%. I rate this book 5/5 stars. - @CoolReadz of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

I find this movie misses a lot of things of the story from the book and it disappointed me a lot. For the first time in my life I actually read the book before the movie and it really made me realize how bad this film was. I hope someday they can make a better version of it with the story and much better acting.

Good adaption of the book. Not something I would watch again.

The book is considered to be the first real YA novel, and the movie doesn't seem to disappoint. While it's not my cup of tea, it really resonates still with teens. My 13 yr old daughter loved reading the book and loves this movie.

A rich gang known as “The Socials” and a poor gang called “The Greasers” are rival gangs. This movie had a touch of emotion as they developed the characters quite well and deepened the plot as the movie progressed. Two boys named Johnny and Ponyboy are confronted by Socs and they try to drown Ponyboy. Johnny retaliates by doing something crazy – he stabs a Soc, which kills him. They take refuge in a hideout at the advice of Dallas, the Greaser friend. The boys decide they want to set things right and say the murder was a result of self-defence. However, things do not go as planned. Johnny runs into a burning church to save some children, but gets terribly wounded in the process. Things take a turn for the worse here. Overall, what makes the movie so good is its plot and characters, and it’s definitely a good watch.

Francis Ford Coppola doesn't miss a single rebellious teen cliché in this cornfed mash-up of "West Side Story" and "Rebel Without a Cause" starring an entire cast of Tiger Beat heartthrobs. In a dried up little Oklahoma town circa 1965 the upper crust "Socials" gang enjoy all the privileges and no-iron polyester they can handle while their arch-rivals from the other side of the tracks, the "Greasers", have to make do with torn blue jeans and domestic violence. When a young Greaser gets into serious trouble with the law it sets in motion a series of events leading to tragic epiphanies, unexpected heroics, and the requisite police shoot-out. Unfortunately Coppola is not John Hughes; C. Thomas Howell, who plays wistful poetry-spouting Greaser "Ponyboy", is not James Dean; his sidekick Ralph Macchio is not Sal Mineo; and the songs of Stevie Wonder, Van Morrison, and Elvis Presley are not the teen anthems Coppola was aiming for. Hackneyed, dated, and overplayed to the point of satire. But the sunsets were lovely.

This is an awesome movie. It actually made me cry just like the book did. The idiot who played Steve (Tom Cruise!) was terrible, but everybody else was good.
