From the celebrated imagination of Dean Koontz comes a powerful reworking of one of the classic stories of all time. If you think you know the legend, you know only half the truth. Here is the mystery, the myth, the terror, and the magic of . . .

Every city has its secrets. But none as terrible as this. He is Deucalion, a tattooed man of mysterious origin, a sleight-of-reality artist who has traveled the centuries with a secret worse than death. He arrives in New Orleans as a serial killer stalks the streets, a killer who carefully selects his victims for the humanity that is missing in himself. Deucalion’s path will lead him to cool, tough police detective Carson O’Connor and her devoted partner, Michael Maddison, who are tracking the slayer but will soon discover signs of something far more terrifying: an entire race of killers who are much more–and less–than human and, deadliest of all, their deranged, near-immortal maker: Victor Helios–once known as Frankenstein.

Wow, what a book! To even contemplate rewriting a classic and putting a fresh theological and psychological approach is daring. But then to execute such a daring story with finesse is breathtaking talent. Koontz has a refreshing voice, and it's his presentation of his knowledge of psychology, theology and anatomy that resonates with readers of the Old Race. What an amazing read. Definitely recommend!!

Man I was so angry when this one ended and I had to wait for the second book! LOVE the series. Interesting twists and turns. Probably could of combined so there were only three books, not four. But that is o.k. LOVE this series! Read it three times already!

Have loved all of Koontz's books I've read and this is no exception. Fantastic start to a series. I think BSG fans might enjoy the similarities of the characters.

A great read & not at all what I expected. Finished it in one sitting & left me wanting more!

"Who's that figure?" "The one with winged feet? That's Mercury." "And that one next to him?" "Aphrodite," said Fullbright. "Are they..." "Engaged in sodomy?" the mortician asked jovially. "Indeed they are. You'd be amazed how many mourners notice and are cheered by it." "I am amazed," (Detective) Michael agreed.
