Book News
For the first half of the 20th century the Canadian Pacific's British Columbia Coast Service operated the Princess ships between Seattle and Skagway through Alaska's Inside Passage. These pretty little ships, usually called "boats" by their crews, graced the harbors of Victoria and Vancouver, stopped in Prince Rupert, Ketchikan, Wrangell, Juneau, and laid by as shore boats exchanged passengers and goods in open waters. A small part of the worldwide CP empire, the Princesses were paid due homage and given fine care. Turner has gathered hundreds of nostalgic photos--mostly b&w--of these Victorian survivors. For every marine collection. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (
