12 y, 16 y, & parents really enjoyed this movie. Closely follows the book but varies a bit on the details - for example the children are older. Was surprised to find Taylor Swift was one of the actors.

My bad. I forgot to read the blurb on the DVD box - the one that says that was an adaptation of a "young adult novel" - which means that it was aimed at 8 year old males. I did notice that one of the stars was Jeff Bridges - an actor who…

I simply love the book that this movie is based on; it is beautiful literature. Though the movie is good, you kind of have to consider it to be its own story. I can tell that they changed the story to be more interesting to those who hate…

I actually enjoy this movie. The movie reminded me of the books The Chrysalids and 1984 which I had to read for high school English. I also liked the way the director used the black and white and then color to reveal the difference…

Honestly, not the best: reminds me of the monotonous, continuous stream of futuristic , post apocalyptic, sci fi movies like, MAZE RUNNER sequels, and also vaguely parallel to hunger games without the kills. Very young casts in these…

An interesting sci fi movie. It was watchable. The one thing that saved it was the acting. Set in a perfect setting, and controlled by the elders, of sorts. No huge 'breakouts', like in other sci fi films, "Planet Of The Apes", but still…
Weird, science fiction type movie. Watched only a few minutes and ejected the dvd.

Set in the future, the story centers around a planned community, completely emotionless and with absolutely no memory of the previous wars and humanity's hatred that led to it - until one man, chosen as the receiver of memory, rediscovers…

This type of post apocalyptic Sci-Fi movie has been done many times before & better versions (i.e. Logan's Run & Soylent Green in the 70's & more recently The Hunger Games) This version seemed watered down & flat...but if their target…

Its a wonderful teen movie. I haven't read the book but I don't know why so many reviewers felt disappointed. Creating an Utopian world is always a great theme in sci-fi stories, and this one shares a lot of common goals that a perfect…

Good (not fantastic) adaptation of the book. They changed a few things, but DID answer some questions I had after reading the book. As a new mother, I found the scenes with the baby very hard to watch! But I knew it was coming.
Don't judge a book by its movie! I definitely preferred the book, and was thrilled to learn it was the beginning of a short series: The Giver, Gathering Blue, Messenger, and Son, each title more engaging than the last.

This worthwhile sci fi flick is only marred by a unbelievable conclusion. The writer and film producers did a good job building this fantasy world until the silly, illogical end.
